The Three Types Of Gunas {character) - Which one is yours?

So in the last blog we ended with if we can change this course of life of continuous struggling by requesting to God. We have actually accepted to live this kind of life with God before our birth, based on our average karma of our previous seven births. So now we feel that we have taken too much heat in this life. Ok what could be the solution. Do God nullifies some of your bad karmas so that your sufferings are also decreased.

The answer is YES. Bhagavadgita gives you the explanation for this.

Please read the previous blogs to understand better as this is a sequence blog.

Before we address the solution we will explain in this blog, the 3 types of Gunas (characters). In the previous blog we have discussed about how this body performs an action. It is not we, who performs the action. An action is performed by Prakruthi (material world), according to the guna {character) a person has along with 23 concepts.

So we will discuss in detail about the Gunas. Gunas are of three types. They are

1. Satva Guna

2. Rajasa Guna

3. Tamasa Guna

The above gunas binds the soul within the body. These three gunas creates the interest in materialistic pleasures, selfish thoughts, attraction, physical pleasures in mankind etc

What is Satva guna?

Satva Guna is pure, which gives light and cannot be destroyed. As it is pure in nature, it looks very brightened and cannot be destroyed. A person who has satva guna will find peace and tranquility in body and mind. His body brightens and glows based on this guna. Disturbance and sorrows leaves from this person. He is able to meditate on the Lotus feet of the Lord. His mind wandering becomes less. His mental disturbances decreases. Sorrow and laziness decreases and he increase his enlightenment. It binds the soul (Athma) by the connection it has on happiness and wisdom.

Satvaguna also ties the humans with karma bandha on happiness and wisdom (gnana). If you feel that because of this Guna I am very peaceful or I am leading a happy life you get controlled by the action you do based on these guna. On the contrary if you feel that you have gained wisdom in life based on this guna again it leads to karmabandha. It creates an affinity in life. But these are on positive sides. But still Lord Krishna says you should detach yourself from the benefits of the actions done.

With this guna you can request God to lessen your sufferings. God may nullify some of your bad karmas.

What is Rajasa Guna

Rajasa guna is based on desire. It is created by cheap desires (asai), bond (attachment), and selfish thoughts (mamakaram). It  binds the soul with karma and the results of the Karma. So anyone who has this character will definitely be attached with the results of the Karma whether it is good or bad. Then these type of persons will be able meditate, think about God, attain salvation because he is fully engorsed in the benefits of wordly pleasures. This rajasa guna is developed in mankind based on his/her attachment to desire, attachment etc. Rajasa guna is the seed. Desire & attachment are the tree. So both are inter related. So basically any person who is more inclined to desire, attachment and selfish thoughts will be more of Rajasa guna. This creates a bond with the actions of the karma performed which leads to birth and death cycle.

That means you cannot request God to change your present state of suffering. God will not nullify your bad karmas. Digest on this

What is Tamasa Guna?

This guna is developed by persons who believe that they are the body. It develops for the persons who has no wisdom. This binds the soul by laziness, sleep and by performing non result actions. It decreases the wisdom or knowledge in one's body and mind. It attracts the persons who has more attachment to body. So children with these type of guna will not study well and be more lazy and will be sleeping most of the times. They may also be doing the unimportant things. So it is not the fault of the child, it is the guna or character which is developing these type of attitudes. Even grown up people may not be interested in doing any work. They feel lazy most of the times.

That means you cannot request God to change your present state of suffering. God will not nullify your bad karmas. This will also lead to life cycle of birth and death.

Satva guna will lead to happiness and wisdom (gnana)

Rajasa guna will lead you to perform the action which will create karma bandham

Tamasa guna will make you to do non result action which will create laziness and non interest in anything.

So we have discussed in detail about the three gunas a person may have. A person may have any of the above gunas or the mixture of the above gunas. Now try to identify what type of guna you have.

We are discussing about how we can detach ourselves from our body. We have also discussed how this body performs an action. The first thing is, the body performs the action through Prakruthi (material world, the memories hidden in our sub conscious mind from our previous births.

Prakruthi performs this function in association with the three types of Gunas. So what memories you have brought forward from your previous birth and based on this what guna you have developed in this birth. And these are again associated with the three types of Karma which we have already discussed in our previous blog.

Think about it.

Will meet soon
